Introduction The Equator - S mission

چکیده
In spite of its short operational life of only ®ve months, the major goals of the Equator-S mission were ful®lled, except that its contribution to the ISTP science is restricted to the morning sector of the outer magnetosphere. A set of twelve papers following this introduction is a ®rst documentation of the achievements. They span from the successful testing and operation of the most advanced and complex way of measuring electric ®elds in a hot plasma environment by means of electron beams, to various investigations at or near the equatorial magnetopause and in the plasma sheet.

Variation of the Equator due to a Highly Inclined and Eccentric Disturber
The New Horizons project is currently in progress, but until recently years ago, a mission to Neptune-Triton System predicted in the mid term 2008–2013 was one of the priorities of NASA’s Solar System Exploration theme. Any way, it is important to increase our knowledge on the dynamics of the inner satellites of Neptune, since according to some authors, this was a key question in the mission to...
متن کاملAqua: an Earth-Observing Satellite mission to examine water and other climate variables
Aqua is a major satellite mission of the Earth Observing System (EOS), an international program centered at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Aqua satellite carries six distinct earth-observing instruments to measure numerous aspects of earth’s atmosphere, land, oceans, biosphere, and cryosphere, with a concentration on water in the earth system. Launched on May...

Introduction: Hajj is an annual mass gathering of over 3.5 million pilgrims congregating from 200 countries in the desert climate of Saudi Arabia. Mass gathering medicine at Hajj is challenged by issues of healthcare accessibility, infection control, on-site treatment, referral, evacuation, and response to disasters and public health emergencies. The Indian Medical Mission at H...

The launch of the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission, in 2009, marked the dawn of a new type of space-based microwave observations. Although the mission was originally conceived for hydrological and oceanographic studies [3,4], SMOS is also making inroads in the cryospheric sciences by measuring the thin ice thickness [5,6]. SMOS carries an L-band (1.4 GHz), passive interferometric...
متن کاملAn Intrusive Dike Origin for Iapetus’ Enigmatic Ridge?
Introduction: The striking equatorial ridge of Iapetus was discovered by the Cassini mission [1]. 18 km high, 100-200 km wide and 1600 km long, this ridge accurately encircles almost 1/3 of the satellite’s equator. Iapetus is also unusual in that its shape is out of equilibrium with its current slow rotation rate: Best fits to its second order harmonic shape indicate that its equatorial bulge i...
